After months of deliberation it has been announced at the Classic & Sports Car – The London Show that took place between the 30 October and the 1 November 2015 that the Jaguar E-Type has been voted the “Best British Car Ever”. This is not the first time that this iconic car has one an award as, for instance, back in 2008 it was placed in first position in the 100 most beautiful cars in the world online list that was produced by the Daily Telegraph.
Classic car enthusiasts will no doubt be aware that, over the years, there have been some highly desirable cars manufactured in the UK which have had an enviable reputation around the world for their build quality. Deciding upon a winner must have proved very difficult even when a shortlist of 10 vehicles was put together that included a Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost, Mini Cooper S, Range Rover and a Ford GT40.
The Jaguar E-Type was built from the early 1960s to the mid 1970s and certainly was designed to turn the heads of people as it cruised elegantly by them. It was capable of reaching speeds of 150mph and getting from 0 to 60mph in less than 7 seconds that, back in those days, was a terrific achievement.
Some classic Jaguar E-Types are highly valued by collectors. Certain models have been sold at auction for huge sums of money. For instance, a Jaguar E-Type Lightweight is believed to have been sold for somewhere between £4 to £7 million earlier this year probably helped by the fact that only 12 were ever built making it particularly rare.
The Jaguar E-Type has also taken part in many racing events. It must have delighted many spectators to be seen and heard roaring around a racing track at speed.
So, congratulations to the Jaguar E-Type for being voted the “Best British Car Ever”.
