You may have spent a considerable sum of money to buy the classic car of your dreams or invested many hours in restoring the vehicle back to pristine condition. The prospect of it being stolen and you never seeing it again does not bear thinking about but there are things that could be done to reduce the likelihood of it being stolen.
Nowadays, a large percentage of modern cars that come off the production line have one or more security devices fitted such as alarm, engine immobiliser or tracking device. This is not the case with a classic car. Therefore, you need to do something about its security yourself or risk it being stolen.
It has to be said that it is extremely difficult to prevent the classic car thief that is determined to steal a vehicle but to do nothing only makes it easier for him or her. So, what can you do?
Well, you could do one or more of a number of things such as fit a paging device or tracking device. You could shut down the electrics or fuel supply or fit a device such as a steering lock, or lock the foot pedals or handbrake. Another option is quite simply to remove the steering wheel from the car when it is not in use.
Unfortunately, there is nothing that will completely stop the classic car thief as someone could quite simply bring along a suitable transporter and winch the classic car onto it and drive away and hope that they have not been spotted.
Obviously, you will have made sure that you have classic car insurance in place sufficient to cover you should it be stolen. You may never see the car again but at least you would receive some recompense for it should it be stolen that could be used towards replacing it.
