When I worked for a bank, the senior manager in the branch had a company car but his was not the normal choice of your average, professional bank manager. He selected a nippy Ford Capri 2.8i that has now become a collectible classic vehicle. He no doubt liked cars with considerable acceleration and speed especially bearing in mind that he used to make an annual trip to a racetrack in Germany where he drove a motorbike at breathtaking speed for the sheer love of doing so.
A work colleague was asked to take the above vehicle to a main Ford dealer to have a repair done on it. The member of staff could have driven a short distance carefully through the town to get to the garage but, no, he had to take a detour of several miles that involved taking the car on a motorway for a few miles when he enjoyed putting his foot down. Fortunately for him, he was not caught by a police car!
The classic Ford Capri 2.8i that was first built back in 1982 has become a collector’s dream vehicle as one in excellent condition may be sold for many thousands of pounds more than the price the owner paid for it when buying it brand new. The vehicle has a 2,792 cc 6-cylider engine that is capable of getting from 0 to 60mph in a mere 7.9 seconds as it heads towards a top speed of 127 mph. You can only expect to get in the region of 27 mpg. It originally came with a 4-speed gearbox but on later models a 5-speed gearbox was fitted.
In its heyday, this classic sports coupe would certainly have caught the attention of the opposite sex. It had sleek, aerodynamic looks and still has to this day and gave the impression that it was built to travel at speed which, of course, it did. Expect to pay a five-figure sum for the Ford Capri 2.8i.
