We have previously commented about classic Ferrari cars that have sold for many millions but this one is a little different. A few days ago, RM Sotheby’s in Florida conducted a charity auction at which it sold a very special LaFerrari.
Following the earthquakes earlier this year in Italy, Ferrari that manufactures desirable sports cars, decided to very generously manufacture an extra LaFerrari hypercar that has a 949hp engine. Originally, only 499 of these vehicles were produced so this latest creation was the 500th. Ferrari donated the car with the proceeds to be used for the benefit of the areas devastated by the earthquakes.
Apparently, there was a great deal of interest in this wonderful vehicle and it was eventually sold for $7 million. This is a record price for a vehicle sold at auction that was manufactured in the 21st century.
It will be interesting to see what sort of a price this beautiful sports car achieves should it ever be sold by the present owner when it becomes a classic vehicle in the years to come. The Ferrari is an extremely desirable vehicle with many models of classic Ferraris that sell for millions of pounds with a Ferrari 250 GTO currently holding the world record price for a car sold at auction.
Of course, if you are looking to purchase a classic vehicle, you will no doubt want to make sure that you have adequate classic car insurance in place as we are sure that you will agree it would not be a good idea to not have such a vehicle insured even if it was declared SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification) and kept off the public road system. (If the vehicle is going to be driven on the public road system and has not been declared SORN it will have to be covered for a minimum of third party).
