Apparently, a few days ago, it is being reported that a classic sports car may have been sold for a world record sum of money – in the region of $142 million. Now, for those who are knowledgeable about classic car values, you may think that if there has been such a sale that it is a Ferrari that has once again achieved a record price.
Well, if the rumours are to be believed, it is actually an extremely rare Mercedes-Benz that has been sold at a private auction. Apparently, the vehicle in question is said to be a Mercedes Benz 300 SLR “Silver Arrow” from 1955. It is said to be one of only two built with a hard top.
Such a vehicle would no doubt attract a lot of attention by passers by if it were seen out on the open road or if it were seen at a classic car show anywhere in the world. It is to be hoped that if someone has purchased the classic vehicle it is going to be visible to may people as opposed to being locked away out of sight forever more.
Such a vehicle would no doubt attract a great deal of attention for classic car thieves so the new owner, assuming it has been sold, will no doubt want to make sure that quality classic car insurance is arranged in case the vehicle is stolen.
