Many of you will have heard of Jamie Oliver MBE in his capacity as a world –renowned chef. He has appeared on many TV programs including his own series over the years. However, not as many people will know that he owns classic cars.
On Saturday 28th September 2024, Classic Car Auctions put up for auction at Stoneleigh Park his 1970 Ford Capri 3000GT Mk1. It was estimated to be worth in the region of £26,000 but was actually sold for £31,500. Its bodywork is in Ermine White and its interior is in black vinyl. It only has 52,467 miles showing on the odometer making it a very low mileage for a car of its age. Jamie Oliver had owned the classic car from June 2014 with him being only its second owner from new. Whilst he owned the vehicle he spent in the region of restoring it. It was his “go-to car”. The car has been seen on TV on more than one occasion.
It sounds like it is quite a rare classic car as it is thought there are a mere 31 of this particular model on the road system.
It comes with a 3 liter Essex V6 engine and is capable of getting from 0mph to 60mph in around 8.5 seconds on its way to a top speed of about 121 mph. We are sure that you will agree that is not bad going for a car that is over 50 years of age.
It would have been of interest to see how much the car would have been sold for at auction had it not have been owned by the celebrity chef Jamie Oliver.
At the same auction, a 1972 Reliant Regal Supervan 111 (Trotters Independent Trading Van) with yellow coachwork was sold for £29,250. It has 97,000 miles showing on its odometer. It is thought to be one of six of these vehicles taking part in the extremely popular TV series Only Fools and Horses with Sir David Jason starring in the lead role known as Del Boy.
We will continue to keep you updated of we happen to hear of other interesting classic cars that are either coming up for auction or have been sold at such an event.
