Who would have thought that a Ford Escort would sell for more than £200,000 but that is exactly what happened at a recent auction in the Midlands. The vehicle achieving this sale price was a 1992 Ford Escort RS Cosworth Lux.

The classic sports car is quite rare with around 2,500 built. This particular car was capable of a top speed of 144 miles per hour. Its exhilarating acceleration was renowned and was not for the faint hearted driver.

When brand new it would have cost in the region of £23,000 so we are sure that you will agree this sounds like it has been a very good financial investment for someone.

The car’s bodywork is in Diamond White and it has been kept in meticulous condition. In fact it has had a mere two owners which is somewhat unusual for a car of this age.

What is also worth noting is that its mileage is very low for a car manufactured in 1992. It was sold at auction with a mere 2,221 miles on the clock. What is also interesting is that an MOT certificate going back to 1995 stated its mileage at 2,217 and the MOT certificate in 1996 had a mileage of 2,218 quoted. So, as you can see, in the last 29 years or so it has done a mere 4 miles – yes that is correct just 4 miles.

The guide price for this classic sports car was quoted at £80,000 to £100,000 so, as you can see, it achieved well above these figures.

The lux model had a few extras no doubt at additional cost. These included the likes of electric sunroof, heated washer jets, electric windows, leather seating and a heated windscreen and electric heated mirrors.

The sale price of £202,500 is actually a world record for this make and model of car. Let us hope that the new owner takes good car of it and it would be lovely to see the classic sports car being used on the open road.
