No doubt many classic car enthusiasts will have heard of the actor Steve McQueen and watched many of his films including the Great Escape and the famous Bullitt that included a well-known car chase. He was renowned for doing his own stunts and obviously loved fast cars.

Well, a Ferrari 275 GTB/4 dating back to 1967 has recently gone under the hammer at auction in the United States of America for a premium price because it had previously belonged to Steve McQueen. He had bought the car whilst filming Bullitt. In fact, it went for 4 times what it was really worth which just goes to show the impact that a star like him can have on the price.

It is believed that an anonymous bidder from the UK has been successful in buying this delightful classic car that had been restored on behalf of its last owner for £6 million.

The car has a V12 3.3 litre engine that has 300bhp and is capable of getting from 0 to 60mph in only 6.5 seconds as it powers on to reach a top speed of 165mph – a figure that not many modern sports cars are capable of achieving.

Mr McQueen sold the car in 1971, so did not retain it for too long, to another actor by the name of Guy Williams.

There is no doubt that the Ferrari make is highly valued within the classic car market and it was not too long ago that a Ferrari 250 GTO was sold for a record price far above what the above Ferrari 275 GTB/4 went for. As many of you will know owning a classic car has been an excellent investment decision for a lot of people although there are numerous enthusiasts who buy a classic car that do so for anything but as an investment.
