For all you lovers of classic cars and bikes there is a wonderful opportunity coming up in the Midlands to enjoy these vehicles from years gone by but at the same time enjoy a ride on a steam train.
Severn Valley Railway, that runs both steam and diesel trains between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth, are hosting the Classic Car and Bike Day on Sunday 13th October 2013 in honour of the heritage of the British transport industry. This is a tremendous opportunity to enjoy admiring some delightful vehicles but also some beautiful countryside as the steam train chugs along stopping at various stations on the way.
You will be able to get off at certain stations along the route to observe the classic cars and bikes. You can also take time out to look around the stations and perhaps enjoy a walk along the River Severn.
Severn Valley Railway will be hosting such vehicles manufactured by the likes of Standard, Triumph and Morris Motors. Triumph is celebrating 90 years of history, Standard is celebrating 110 years of their vehicles being built and Morris Motors will be celebrating 100 years. There will also be a number of Rolls-Royces on display.
At Highley station you will be able to see cars emanating from the Longbridge factory that was situated on the outskirts of Birmingham. In particular both post and pre Second World War Austins will be on show.
If you are interested in classic motorbikes then get along to Hampton Loade station that is well worth a visit even if there were no vintage vehicles on display.
This promises to be a wonderful day out for both enthusiasts of steam railways and classic cars and motorbikes. Apparently, standard steam train fares apply on the day that is good news so why not take advantage of this and enjoy the whole experience.
